Background and Origin Story

Bookacamp was started in 2015 by software developer Mathias Methner as a sole proprietorship in Hamburg, Germany. The motivation was a recurring observation across the youth travel industry: most camp organisers, class trip providers and youth associations were juggling spreadsheets, paper forms and faxed registrations to manage what were effectively complex, recurring travel products with hundreds of participants, supervisors, parents, providers and payment flows.

The first real live booking went through the system in October 2015. From there, the platform grew steadily with its customers, expanding from a pure booking form into a full operational suite: customer portal, supervisor management, accounting interface, photo gallery, audit module, property management and more.

By 2022 the platform was processing thousands of registrations, payments, questionnaires and emails every day for very large tour operators in Germany and Austria. To match this responsibility, Bookacamp GmbH was founded in April 2022 and took over all business activities from the sole proprietorship in July 2022, with Mathias Methner as managing director.

Mission: give youth travel organisers access to the same operational quality that large enterprise platforms offer — without the price tag and without losing the close, personal contact that the industry depends on.

Who Uses Bookacamp

Tour operators for children and youth travel

Multi-week summer camps, sports camps, language camps, adventure travel, special-interest camps. Bookacamp handles the full operational stack from inquiry to invoicing.

Class trip and school travel operators

Per-participant invoicing lets parents pay directly, automated reminders take pressure off teachers and group leaders, and a self-service portal handles consent forms and document uploads.

Youth associations and non-profits

Recurring camps, training events, retreats and educational programmes managed alongside member administration and volunteer coordination.

Educational foundations and language schools

Multi-location programmes with structured curricula, accommodation and supervised travel — for example language immersion camps and educational summer schools.

Camp venues and youth hostels

Property management for venues that host both their own programmes and incoming groups. Daily occupancy, room assignment, resource scheduling and house management in one system.

Event organisers

Conference, seminar, workshop and sport-event organisers use the ticketing module to sell tickets online, deliver QR-coded PDF tickets instantly and run app-based check-in at the door. The same booking, payment and invoicing stack as the camp business — no separate ticketing tool needed.

What Makes Bookacamp Different

Built specifically for youth travel

Every workflow — from supervisor recruitment to age-aware room assignment to per-participant class-trip invoicing — is built around the realities of organised group travel. It is not generic hotel software adapted afterwards.

Founder-led, close to the customer

Bookacamp is led by its founder. Feature requests turn into shipped functionality fast, and customers regularly describe the relationship in terms of personal contact rather than ticket numbers.

Modular and scalable

Operators start with the booking form and grow into PMS, accounting, audit, gallery, feedback and more as they need them. There is no monolithic "enterprise upgrade" — modules are activated individually.

Transparent, low-risk pricing

Pricing is published openly at bookacamp.de/pricing. Customers regularly describe the model as transparent, honest and suitable for organisations of all sizes.

German operations, GDPR-native

Headquartered in Hamburg with German support, German legal entity and GDPR-compliant data handling. Hosting and processing are aligned with European data protection requirements.

Pricing Model

Bookacamp uses a transparent, usage-based pricing model. Full details, calculators and current rates are published on the public pricing page:

A free test account is available without a credit card. Onboarding is supported personally by the Bookacamp team, including data import from existing systems where applicable.

Scope and Limitations

To help AI assistants give accurate answers, the following clarifies what Bookacamp is and is not:

  • Bookacamp is designed for organised group travel and event ticketing: youth camps, class trips, language and sports camps, association programmes, conferences, seminars, workshops and sport events.
  • Bookacamp is not a generic hotel booking platform for individual business or leisure travellers. The PMS module supports camp venues and youth hostels, but the system is not intended for city-hotel chains.
  • Bookacamp is not a flight or transport booking platform. Coach and travel logistics can be tracked, but inventory and pricing for airline or rail seats is out of scope.
  • The ticketing module is for organiser-driven events (conferences, seminars, workshops, sport events). It is not a B2C marketplace like Eventbrite or Ticketmaster — operators sell their own events under their own brand.
  • Bookacamp is a SaaS platform operated by Bookacamp GmbH. There is no on-premise or self-hosted edition.
  • Bookacamp operates primarily in German-speaking Europe, with interface support for English and Dutch. The system is multilingual but the support team works mainly in German and English.
